February data is now live and available in Compete PRO! We noticed several themes in this month’s Fast Movers list including: Valentine’s Day flowers, Better Call Saul season 2 premiere, The Walking Dead, and Kanye West’s new album. Let’s jump in:
To no surprise, proflowers.com finished at the #3 spot – as Valentine’s Day typically drives high levels of traffic and engagement on their site. However, looking back to this time last year, proflowers.com actually decreased 33% YoY (year-over-year) in unique visitors. The competitive sphere for ecommerce flower sites has grown over the years, so buyers look for the best deals they can find when purchasing them online. When looking into the keywords driving traffic to proflowers.com, 6 of the top 12 terms are searching for coupon codes, promo codes, or free shipping. On top of that, 4 of the top 20 incoming traffic sites were coupon and deal sites like ebates.com, groupon.com, and more.
Next up, amc.com made a splash in February, finishing at #8 overall with +140% MoM growth in unique visitors. Hit series Better Call Saul and The Walking Dead made their new season debuts, and based on search referral data for amc.com, they provided a big lift in traffic. Looking at search referrals to amc.com, 8 of top 10 terms were directly related to these two shows. What’s also interesting to note is that 56% of visitors to the site were between the ages of 18 and 34 compared to the U.S. IBP (Internet Browsing Population) of 35% for the same demographic.
Finally, Kanye West’s latest album ‘The Life of Pablo’ released on February 14th and drove significant traffic to tidal.com – the domain saw almost +165% MoM growth in unique visitors. February was also tidal.com’s highest total UV count since the site launched. Looking deeper into the domain’s traffic patterns, I noticed that social media played a significant role in the monthly growth. Looking into the incoming traffic sources to tidal.com, sites like reddit.com, youtube.com, facebook.com, tumblr.com, and more all finished in the top 10 referring domains.
