January 2014 saw many categories understandably move up the ranks (health sites, travel planning pages, financial sites) — but a surprising fast mover for the month was the Humor and Novelty Blogs category (memes)! Check out the Top 10 list and learn more below!
For the most part, these “Humor and Novelty Blogs” are meme feeds — they bring all of the Internet’s craziest, most viral, hilarious content and house them in one spot. There are a few main differences that set the sites apart, mostly in content theme (oddee.com and sadanduseless.com somewhat focus on strange and unfortunate things, respectively; brobible.com targets ‘bros’ and runs more like a normal blog) or in website UX (oddee.com has a tiled, photo-centric layout, while ifunny.mobi is simple and mobile-optimized).
For the most part, sites in the category enjoyed respectable month-over-month increases, with 9gag.com and brobible.com taking a hit with small decreases in unique visitors MoM. However, lets-have-a-beer.com and lolblog.com had remarkable increases at over 800% MoM!
In any event, all of these sites are performing well, and make good use of existing viral content to make smiles and gain visitors. Spreading smiles all over the interweb — that’s this fast mover.
