Quick-Tip: Using compete.com daily data to inform your marketing campaigns

Daily information can give you insight into the effectiveness of your competitor’s marketing efforts especially if you’re certain they rely heavily on email or social marketing for traffic. Here’s a quick-tip that will help you identify which days of the week might work best for your email marketing campaigns.

First you’ll need to download the CSV of the daily attention and reach metrics for the last three months. Next open it in excel. Once in excel, ensure that you’ve saved the file and that you’re not in Read Only mode. Insert a column next to the data, fill in the dates by dragging the right corner of the box all the way down. Reformat this column by selecting “reformat column” so that you see the day of the week. Next, look through all the entries and find the biggest growth in daily attention and reach percentages. This will help you map out if, for example, Tuesdays and Thursdays were reaching the most people or if Mondays and Fridays were most engaging. You can then cater your marketing efforts based on your findings and potentially boost the effectiveness of your advertising spend.
