On Google Trends this afternoon, I noticed that “Earth Day” was a common search term. According to the Huffington Post, Earth Day was created by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson in 1970 as a celebration of Earth’s birthday. This year, our good ol’ planet is turning 43. Apparently, Earth Day has been gaining in popularity and retailers from Target to Chipotle are offering freebies and deals in honor of Earth Day.
Did you know any of this? I surely did not. I checked the Compete data to see which sites people were turning to for Earth Day info. Of the top 10 daily keyword destinations for “Earth Day,” many are sites with search functionality which would suggest that I am not the only one who didn’t know the specifics about Earth Day.
What is even more interesting, is that out of the 9 retailers the Huffington Post listed as having Earth Day deals, none of the sites appear on even the top 100 destinations for “Earth Day.” So tell us, what did you guys know about Earth Day? Do you know of any other retailers that are offering special deals?
