Consumers appear to be buying into the holiday creep that has dominated the headlines over the last couple of weeks. Holiday creep is the term being used to describe the efforts by retailers to extend the holiday shopping season and offer holiday related deals before the traditional Black Friday kickoff.
Year over year total visits increased last week increased in 7 of the 15 retailer categories according to Compete data. The biggest winners appear to be both mass merchants, department stores and home improvement retailers.
One week is hardly a trend, but this data raises some questions about the challenges that electronics retailers will face in the absence of a hot electronics product this year that is not stamped with the Apple or Amazon logo.
