The holiday season is supposed to be a time spent celebrating rather than stressing. It’s no wonder why more people are starting their shopping process early rather than waiting until the last minute. According to the recent Compete Holiday Insights™ survey, over half of the people surveyed have already started shopping for gifts. Close to 30 percent of those people completed over 10 percent of their holiday shopping by mid October.
Not only do people shop early, they also spend more in general and prefer to shop online. These early birds stated that they had spent an average of $184 online, up from $103 in early October of last year. This year’s average online purchase is about 30 percent more than the average amount spent in stores.
So what were the most shopped for items? Toys and games as well as books were popular gift items during the week of October 3-9. Following closely behind were electronics, movies and games as well as clothing and shoes.
Check back in the coming weeks for more updates on shopper activities during this holiday season.
