MySpace.com and Mapquest.com Finally See Some Sunshine; Mevio.com Traffic Explodes
BOSTON, MA–(Marketwire) - Compete, a Kantar Media company, has released its ranking of the top 50 websites for March 2011. In an unexpected turn of events, MySpace.com, which has been losing traffic consistently for more than a year, experienced a 5 percent uptick in March. Similarly, after four months of falling site traffic, Mapquest.com bounced back nearly 16 percent for the month. The perennial top ten sites remain largely the same this month, with the exception of Blogspot.com, which ousted eBay.com to claim the #10 spot.
One to Watch
Mevio.com, a video site, had explosive growth in March — leaping 2,050 spots in the rankings to #200. This translates into traffic increases of 779 percent for the month and 626 percent for the year.
Spring Cleaning for Browsers
Unique visitors to Mozilla.com rose 102 percent month-over-month (M-O-M) and 70 percent year-over-year (Y-O-Y). Likely factoring into this notable lift is the March 22 release of Mozilla’s latest browser, Firefox 4.
March Madness Recap
NCAA March Madness basketball playoffs carried cbssports.com (up 171 percent M-O-M) and NCAA.com (up 866 percent M-O-M) to victory in March. Will these sites leverage this momentum or experience a dramatic drop in April? We’ll see.
Editor’s Note: One factor contributing to the general rise in traffic is the return to a full 31-day month. UVs to many sites, across all categories, dropped in February due in part to the abbreviated 28-day month.
