Quick Tip: Using Permalinks for Graphs

Compete’s graphs have a special permalink button so you can select any of our metrics and link your colleagues directly to the graph you’re looking at. Please note that when you send links to PRO metrics the user you send it to must also have access to view it. The free metrics are in the site profile and comparison section of Compete and freely viewable metrics include Unique Visitors, Visits, and Compete Rank.

Using the link at the top of your address bar would not allow you to select the desired metrics, http://siteanalytics.compete.com/amazon.com. Notice how the graph you’re viewing from the link is defaulted to the unique visitors metric rather than the ones selected (visits and average stay) in the permalink displayed below?

So to save time you can click the permalink button, and copy and paste the link to this graph in your reports, emails, spreadsheets, etc. The image below shows the step-by-step directions on how to directly navigate to set metrics on a graph. This feature can be reused in any part of the site that has a graph with a permalink button.

  1. Select your first metric.
  2. Select your second metric, optional.
  3. Click on the permalink icon on the top right of the graph.
  4. Copy the link that appears, and paste it in emails, reports, spreadsheets, etc.
