PS3 vs. Wii vs. Xbox 360: PS3 Demand Soaring but Sticker Shock Cometh
Written by Matt Pace (contact - e-mail) -- November 13th, 2006 | Recommend This
Every few years, video gamers of all ages collectively rejoice with the dawn of a new generation of game consoles. The long-awaited 7th generation console battle, which began with the launch of the Xbox 360 last November, heats up in earnest over the next few days with the release of Sony’s PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Nintendo’s Wii. The stakes (and prices) this time are higher than ever.
The ubiquitous PlayStation has sat atop the gaming world for over a decade. Sony, however, has lost some of its luster of late and is counting on the PS3 to help right the ship, drive adoption of its nascent BluRay DVD format, and of course, help it maintain its video game dominance. It’s a tall order for one machine, let alone one which will shatter the price ceiling for game consoles and arrive in only very limited quantities for the holidays. These supply constraints are certainly not the elixir Sony needed.
Microsoft, with a year head start, has raced to an early lead with over 6 million Xbox 360 sales to date — this despite not having a Halo title to drive interest. Nintendo opted out of the graphics arms race this time around, and instead has focused on a strategy of making the Wii innovative and easy to use.
Plenty will be written about how these consoles compare on a feature by feature basis; however, comparing demand for each console provides insight into how well each is faring in the marketplace even before the Wii and PS3 hit store shelves.

Note: Compete, Inc. calculated console demand based on the number of U.S. consumers who shopped for the respective consoles at leading online retailers.
The chart above shows the monthly U.S. demand for each console. Demand for the Xbox 360 spiked to nearly 1.75 million U.S. consumers when it arrived last November. So far this year, the Xbox 360 has attracted an average of 418,000 U.S. shoppers each month. In the meantime, PS3 and Wii demand has been steadily climbing in anticipation of their release. PS3 demand surpassed Xbox 360 demand for the first time in September. Wii accomplished that same feat in October. Demand for all three consoles should spike this month with the Wii and PS3 launching and the holiday shopping season beginning.
Sony will undoubtedly sell all the PS3s it can ship this year, but what are the long term prospects for it as well as the other consoles? How long will the Xbox 360’s lead last? A sample of the findings from Compete’s October 2006 survey of active current-generation console gamers confirms that this race is anything but decided.
Though much has been made in some circles about the PS3’s hefty price tag ($600), word has apparently not reached most consumers…many of whom have the PS3 on their shopping lists. In fact, almost half (48%) of those considering a PS3 expect it to cost less than $300—equivalent to the original price of a PS2. When told of the PS3’s actual retail price, 73% of all gamers and 59% of those considering a PS3 thought it was overpriced. Wii fared much better and many of its buyers will be pleasantly surprised by its value. Among those considering a Wii, 75% expected it to cost more than $200. It goes on sale for $250.
Wii’s price may be right, but a troubling sign for Nintendo emerges on the loyalty front. Nintendo’s strategic decision to simplify its console may in fact be turning off a number of its loyalists. 39% of GameCube owners are considering a Wii purchase while 40% are considering a PS3. PlayStation loyalty is considerably higher with 63% of PS2 owners considering a PS3.
It’s bound to be an exciting, albeit potentially frustrating, holiday season for you if you are a gamer or have one on your shopping list. On the one hand there is now a choice of three amazing video game consoles, all of which have their advantages: the PS3 has the bells and whistles; the Xbox 360 has Xbox Live and a library or titles; and the Wii has its franchise games and revolutionary controller. On the other hand, Wii supplies may be limited and PS3s will be near impossible to find, so getting a hold of either one will be tricky and expensive (Read: ebay markups). That being said, I’m sure Microsoft will be more than happy to sell you an Xbox 360 as a substitute.

Some would argue that the PS3 sounds a lot better on paper but i think the end effect to the user is whats going to matter in the long run. Look at these side by side screen shots from xbox 360 and PS3

Evan you suck, go home with your bullshit screen shot.
You are a Xbox fanboy, so shut up.
November 13th, 2006 at 3:53 pm
haha this is great joke… oh wait your serious… wow i hope that this isnt all this company does… you really blow at your job… everybody knows the Wii will dominate sales.
November 13th, 2006 at 4:24 pm
Screw everyone and buy a Wii.
November 13th, 2006 at 4:49 pm
Uh guys, cool down.
Of course the Wii has less conversion from its loyal fan-base… it’s made up of hardcore gamers, what all consoles have been marketed towards since the SNES/Genesis. Nintendo is banking on non-gamers who are not a part of its loyal fanbase to fill in the gaps, because the XBOX 360 and PS3 have a stranglehold on this very narrow market.
November 13th, 2006 at 10:30 pm
That’s not ture. Nintendo is aiming the Wii toward the hardcore fan baseas well as the casual/non-gamer. Nintendo and many developers are working on games that the aim directly at the hardcore base. Games such as Metroid Prime 3 and Red Steel have complex controlls that casual/non-gamers would definatly find to be intimidating, but hardcore fans also find interesting. There are also games that are in development that appeal to the casual/non-gamer as well as the hardcore gamer.
Plus, I find these numbers rather….interesting. All this is actually the other way around from what I have heard. Saying the many PS3 hopfulls have changed their mind and have decided to buy a 360 and/or Wii. I’ve been hearing that the next-gen battle will go to Microsoft. A decent price, a library of games, and the current availabilty puts it in the best position to be leader this time around. …………..No I’m no Microsoft fanboy, if anything I’m with the Big N!

That is actually kind of surprising that the general public doesn’t realize the cost of the PS3. I wonder if the outrageous cost of the system, yeah sure it can do Blu-Ray but I don’t feel that the technology is completely necessary at this point right now, will damage the system.
This is going to be a very interesting console war.

PRICE COMPARISON BETWEEN XBOX360 and PS3:
PlayStation 3 = $500
XBOX360 = $300
4 Years (Estimated lifespan of 360) of Online (XBOXLIVE Gold)= $240
Total: $540
Thats before you add in the:
HD-DVD Drive if wanted. Play & Charge Kits. Wifi. Hard-Drive etc.
The 360 is MORE expensive than the PS3 for MOST people (As everyone who has a 360 really ought to have Live Gold)
November 14th, 2006 at 7:26 am
Kris- The Wii could dominate sales. The demand graph illustrates people that show interest in each console. Because the Wii is half the cost of the PS3, it might translate into much better conversion of that interest than the PS3, and sell more.
November 14th, 2006 at 8:11 am
yo I hate to burst 360 fanboys bubbles but we all know the 360 has been out a year and developers have had time to play with it . duh it should look more polished then a system that is just launching. I mean its really stupid to compare the 360 with screenshots to the Ps3 when it hasnt even the time to get played with by devs . try to compare 360 launch titles to ps3 launch titles, now that should shut all the fanboys up . Now when the Ps3 has been out more than a year do a side by side shot then, I pretty sure there will be a HELL of a difference . I think that the 360 is one hell of a console as well as the Wii but people hate to admit that the Ps3 is a monster and the better console ,they havent even begun to tapp into the power yet.
November 14th, 2006 at 8:51 am
Max & Kris: I think that with the 200 million dollar advertising budget Nintendo has for the Wii (is that local to the states or world-wide?) and their price-point, they have an opportunity to be “The other choice” which will make their console sell.
If they manage to sell out of the 4 million Wiis they’ll have between now and Dec 31st, they’ll have sold 2/3rds the amount of XBOX 360’s (6 million) that have sold over the course of one year. 3rd Party Developers will notice. That’d be Nintendo’s big dream, at any rate.
As a game journalist noted: Execs from Sony and Microsoft both said that their console was the best, but that they could see the Wii as being the 2nd console for their fans to own. He noted that if this was true, wouldn’t that make the Wii the winning console? That’s just a funny point, but again, it’s all about Microsoft’s momentum and Nintendo’s big plan and advertising. I don’t think Sony can unentrench either, and I loved my PSX, PS2, XBOX, SNES and NES.
November 14th, 2006 at 9:03 am
Also keep in mind that because of the price of the wii many people will buy it as a secondary system to either the PS3 or 360. The numbers are actually tilting rather heavily to the PS3 side when you factor that in. Personally I will be waiting until March to see what system has the best games available. If the wii does then I’ll still most likely get a PS3 or 360 too.
November 14th, 2006 at 9:45 am
You’ve got your xbox 360s which have better graphics and a few extras. But also will cost you tons of money.
You’ve got your PS3, Which Is nothing different from the PS2 but a few upgrades. and still, this will cost you tons of money.
The only plus side of those two is, you can play old games in them, and if you can, afford to buy downloads. Nothings free people.
Then you’ve got the Wii system. Which in fact, Does has something new to offer. A total new and unique console. Wii also has a whole new line of games coming out for the system this year, and a ton more by early next year. So if your worried about sitting around with a game system with no games. Your wrong.
November 14th, 2006 at 11:21 am
Some of you have to to a better job of being unbiased.
Jess- You’re wrong. So far, what we have seen, both the 360 and the PS3 have almost identical graphics. Some 360 games are better and some PS3 games are better.
Yeah, the price is a little steep for the PS3, but when you compare that to the fact the console itself is worth $1000-$2000 (blue ray player alone is up to $3000), A $500 or $600 console is a great deal. The 360 requires add-ons and an online subscription fee which will then propel it above the PS3 price point.
As for the Wii. Its success lies with its controller. It places you in the game and that is what gamers want to feel. The problem then comes with this comparision. If you compare the PS2 with the Wii (minus the controller), the graphics and gameplay will be almost identical.
Each of the three consoles have the strengths and weaknesses. It will be up to the consumer to decide what type of gamer they are. Hardcore gamers, go for the Ps3 or 360. Casual gamers, go for the Wii… that is my honest opinion.
November 14th, 2006 at 11:37 am
Actually, the success of the Wii lies on how many units they sell within this year, because ultimately it will live or die based on 3rd party support. As I wrote already…
“If [Nintendo] manages to sell out of the 4 million Wiis they’ll have between now and Dec 31st, they’ll have sold 2/3rds the amount of XBOX 360’s (6 million) that have sold over the course of one year. 3rd Party Developers will notice. That’d be Nintendo’s big dream, at any rate.”
The controllers are good for us as gamers, and may usher in a change wherein we get rid of these gamepads which are badly evolved arcade sticks that fit in our hands (using our thumbs for dexterous movement? ever notice that your thumb has an easier time moving certain directions than others whereas you can point your hand and move it far more easily?).
At any rate, the true novelty of the Wii is simply that Nintendo has realized the market is too narrow. The big question is “Will the Wii win converts, or is this phantom market of casual and female gamers really that?” My inclination is that they’re out there.

Let’s not forget that the HD-DVD vs. Bluray battle is just getting started and in all likelyhood will just result in a “tie” with combo HD-DVD/Bluray players dominating in 2007 after the chipsets and laser/focusing elements are ready.
The PS3 with Bluray (only) capabilities might not look like such a great deal if HD-DVD were to “win”, or if both formats persist Microsoft has the option of an external HD-DVD/Bluray combo drive if they so choose.
Personally, if there’s a

I simply had a technical question, aside from this lively debate pertaining to the meaning of these results. I was just wondering exactly how these numbers were obtained? What are the details of how the survey was administered and what was the wording of the questions asked? How many people were questioned, and was there any incentive for them to participate in the survey? The results from this survey are intriguing, I simply prefer to have raw numbers and interpret for myself. So if anyone can help me that would be great.
November 14th, 2006 at 4:41 pm
Oh sure the PS3 is an AWESOME deal at $600, Just think of that Blu Ray player that you’re paying for. This was the argument that people used when the PS2 launched as well remember? Well it’s expensive but it plays dvds too.
By the time you’re actually ready for a blu ray player, trust me walmart will have the cheap chinese ones that play em better than the PS3 on sale for about 50 bucks.
And don’t even begin to compare Sony’s magical free service to Xbox live gold. Sony’s service is:
1) Not here yet
2) Doesn’t require any kind of developer support
3) They give you almost the same thing the PS2 gave you (with a prettier wrapper) devs still need to host their own servers, no common api so seamless experience.
November 14th, 2006 at 8:39 pm
I Think the game system that is right for you is based on the type of games you like. If ypu like Mario and stuff, go with the Wii. If you like more action packed games such as shooters and racing games, get the 360 or PS3. Also, the price factors into it….. Personally, I dont give a crap about all the “extra” features (Blu-Ray, HD, etc.) I would just buy the console for the games that best suit me.
November 15th, 2006 at 5:06 am
Forehead has a point, only hardcore techies are going to take a side on the HD-DvD vs. Blu-ray, most consumers (like me) will wait a year or two to see who comes out victorious before replacing their entire DvD collection. So PS3’s blu ray abilities won’t sway most people, yet. Neither will the internet browser, webtv sucked then and it will suck now.
I see the “war” leaning toward Microsoft, they are in a simmilar position that the PS2 was in in the last generation, though it might not be the most powerful console of this generation they have a head start on the other consoles and have a library of games. Plus with popular games like Gears of War and Dead Rising out and with Halo 3 on the horizon Sony will have to pull quite a few killer aps out of their hats to grab the attention from Microsoft.
My prediction
1. 360 (Established, good exclusive games)
2. Wii (Innovative, Affordable, Zelda)
3. PS3 (Powerhouse, expensive)
November 15th, 2006 at 7:47 am
Hey iam from holland (europe), but they say over here that the playstation has better launch tiltes the the 360 thats bullshit, you cant even paly youre old ps games on the ps3 because 80% aint compatable, and thats what they promist. Plus blu ray will not be supported by every movie company, yeah porn but i dont want to watch porn on my ps3 so i would go for the 360 because i aint no mario fan.
November 19th, 2006 at 2:42 am
if the ps3 has a web browser what happence if you get a virus… i mean this is possible right?
also my perspective on the ps3 is that a lot of its promises i dont think were met… im not actually sure of this but im pretty sure that they were useless anyways lol
November 19th, 2006 at 3:15 am
I really would put about 16$ on the fact that everysingle person on here is wrong, and has facts that are all based on beta shit, and loose end accounts filled with bias and opinion. All opinions aside, your a fool to say the PS3 isnt the best system, all on account of shear technical specs, its the biggest value, and offers the highest end performance. Reality check, wii will beat out Sony and microsoft with sales and fun, but really, 360, and PS3 will be the ones to beat, everyone knows every product nintendo has made since n64 has been out of date. Nintendo cannot be the cutting edge at this point, maybe next generation around. For now Wii is indeed the alternative to serious gaming systems that bring quite the bang for indeed quite the buck. (please for the sake of sanity and not making yourself look real dumb, dont complain about the price of the PS3 high end model, it is such a bargain, I need not explain why, you can do the reasearch.)—Noah C., Cheers!
November 20th, 2006 at 11:07 am
I stood in line and got the first wii at my walmart and it kicks ass i think gamers are looking to much at specs and price and not enough at fun and let me tell you red steel and zelda and even wii sports are all kick ass. and even my mom can play. she almost kick my ass in bowling its its really great if you over looked the wii you shoul look again
November 20th, 2006 at 8:32 pm
The ps3 is by far the best system out of the 3 except for the price tag. To me that is the only reason I will not buy one. The xbox 360 is a pretty sweet system but at the moment I have not tested out the wii but am pretty positive it will be just like all other nintendo systems which is more for kids and not serious game play.
November 21st, 2006 at 6:28 pm
360 kik Wii’s ass@@@@@@@@@ Wii is for poor people!!!! u hobos!!!!!!
November 21st, 2006 at 8:44 pm
im sorry free ps3 but nintendo has serious game play like zelda and metroid. its not just for kids ether it’s just that most 3′rd partys didn’t get the mesage till resident evil 4
November 24th, 2006 at 12:57 pm
OH DEAR GOD! EVERYONES A FANBOY. WHEN WILL IT END?!?!?!?! Out of the many websites ive visited it seems that a majority of the people are more intrested in the wii simply because they seen everything the 360 and the ps3 have to offer, the controls, the controller itself, the gameplay. Sure ps3 has motion sensing technology too but it looks like it would be tough to use with that kind of controller, plus, it really isnt hyped up enough to be a selling point for them. The 360 is a great system as well and im sure with its already installed user base, wonderful interface and great games out already it will be a major player in the console war. Ps3’s had some major bumbles in sales like only shipping 400,000 or something to North America which might although be a ploy to stimulate a buzz on the news and in homes (anyone seen fox on the day it came out? I bet sony payed them millions to do that bullshit). So in my opinion, and to be honest, im not a fanboy, i play more pc games than anything else. I dont own an xbox or a ps2 and i dont know where my gamecube has been for the past few years. But i think that xbox360 will emerge the winner with a wii a close second and ps3 a close third. Although when prices drop for the systems. I dont really know. If people actually wanted the gamecube theyd be tripping over babies to get it at 99 bucks, so since people actually want the wii, that could be great for nintendo. And the the ps3, being, i think, the most hardwaredly advanced of all the systems could be a great sell and buy at 200 bucks if it drops that low, like the ps2 did. And i get the feeling everybody already has a 360 that really wants one, because although they have a great user base and such, the availability is so great that if anymore people wanted one, theyd have it by now. But hey, at 200 bucks, id get a 360 as well. So in the beginning i think itll be 360, wii ps3, but later on, its anybodys game. Thanks for listening to my long ass opinion
November 24th, 2006 at 3:18 pm
sure graphics are a great addition to a game. The xbox and especially ps3 have this going for them. Many of these launch titles coming out for both systems are non-original and lie heavily on the graphics to carry the game. Nintendo has always been known for emphasizing the gameplay and not relying greatly on the graphics. Having an xbox and being an advid halo, halo 2 fan its making it hard to decide which system to buy next. Because of wiis originality and emphasis on the gameplay factor I think it is going to attract many gamers looking for something different. Nintendo does have the history behind them of favorites with mario and especially zelda. Recreating Zelda onto the wii, it is anticipated that it could be charted as the best action/adventure game to date. Nintendo because of its solid gameplay and innovative design will overtake the graphic advantages of the xbox and ps3 and give gamers a taste of what games are meant to be like
November 24th, 2006 at 4:27 pm
xbox is the best ps3 sucks wii is crappyer that my shit xbox will win overall and will outshine more than anything to come
ps3 had alot of sales b/c ppl sell the system also the chipinside the ps3 is worth more than the ps3 other than that ps3 sucks and it will continue to suck like runescape pokemon and all u nerds get a life and get girlfriends b/c u will only get cyber pleasure also hand pleasures while downloadingporn fromlimewire
November 25th, 2006 at 6:58 pm
Originally when I heard of the ps3 I thought it was going to be the best console hands down and was planning on getting it, but when I heard about its price it made me feel like they sony are trying to legally rob me. I dont want some stupid new dvd player when I can buy one for £30 and it will still play dvds. So I decided based on awesome games and graphics the Xbox 360 is my first choice but my second choice is the wii as its completely different to the xbox 360 with its remote so I dont feel like I am wasting my money for an almost identicle console with a different lookm, slightly different specs and a bigger price tag and some mumbo jumbo dvd thing that I dont know or care what it does. I already have a dvd player so I am choosing my console based on what a consoles meant for not something I already have but different and a cool name. Game consoles should be judged on their games not there mumbo jumbo dvd players. Look at the xbox 360 its got some amazing fps games and it hasnt even released Halo 3. That really says something to me as Halo 3 was the main buying point for the xbox. Also the wii brings a new way to play fps games which is more realistic and a new expirience as I am getting bored of the old one. The biggest plus side of it though is the fact with the waving around of the remote I will be doing I will be able to get get strong while playing video games and working out will be fun. Watch out girls here come the buff wii players. Yeh I know about blue ray hd-dvd but I cant really the point behind them.
November 27th, 2006 at 9:28 pm
PS3 is my favorite system out of the three systems(ps3,X-box 360,Wii). I think that sony needs to stop selling the $500 ps3 console, and take the $600 ps3 console and move it down to a price of $400.
November 28th, 2006 at 4:36 pm
Hmm… well I’ve read all your comments and I think everyone has a point and to be honest, we’ll never actually know which was truly the best until we’re debating which is better ‘PS4′, ‘Xbox 1080′ or ‘Nintendo Ewe’!!
Now, I have owned virtually every console from the Commodore 64 all the way to the Xbox 360, so I would say I have a good sense of what makes a console great, and I think it’ll turn out the same way this time as well. The PS3 and the Xbox are pretty much the same as each other… they will BOTH sell well, and the differences in sales will not make the slightest difference… same way as PS2 vs Xbox… I think they both won that competition… otherwise they still wouldn’t be bringing out consoles. So in my opinion, they will both finish joint first.
Now on to the Wii. The Wii looks like a great fun console, and everyone says they are going to buy it on here, albeit as their 2nd console. Now whilst that is a great thought, and the sensible conclusion would be that if EVERYONE is buying it as a 2nd console, then surely it will win??? Right??… No… wrong… I just don’t think that people will end up buying it. The few Nintendo fans it has left, and I’m one of the biggest, will buy it, but honestly, the same as the ‘fun’ Gamecube, it’ll just sell poorly. It probably won’t be supported by companies like Rare and Konami and Rockstar, or any of the other BIG games companies, and in a years time, it’ll be at the back of GAME and Woolworths on handful of shelves like the Gamecube is, and unlike the PS3 and Xbox which will cover the other 90% of the store.
Oh… and one last thing… Goldeneye and Tetris have now been knocked off my top spot and second spot respectively as the best games ever made… GEARS OF WAR… THE BEST GAME EVER MADE… The graphics are truly amazing and proof that Xbox 360 can hold it’s own against the PS3!
November 28th, 2006 at 9:54 pm
Based on recent online poll, Wii is leading the pack, leaving xbox 360 and Playstation 3 for 2nd and 3rd. Apparently, people enjoy the wii unique controllers and reasonable price as opposed to Xbox 360 and PS3 High-Definition features of the other 2.

The PS3 probably is the best system with all it’s tech stuff but I think if your a hardcore gamer you’d go with the XBOX 360. Everybody is wrapped around the idea that the Xbox soley produces it’s best games by it’s number1 game sellers, which is Halo, etc.. The truth is, the PS3, XBOX360, and the Wii all have the ability to come out with new and intovating games that could blow the previous fanbased games out of the water. Who needs the same old same old when you have tons and tons of different war, sport, adventure and fighting games on the market!? I can understand your concern about buying a Wii for it’s price and it’s clasic games, but if your a hardcore gamer you’d go with pure power. The Wii just dosen’t stand up against the PS3 or the Xbox 360. Furthermore, if you can even find a PS3 6 months after launch and can actaully afford it, buy it! I would but i can’t afford it. Xbox 360 is going to be the number 1 seller in the United States because of it’s power, graphics and semi-expensive game console. People aren’t just looking to buy a system based on Halo. I’m looking forward to some of it’s basketball and war games myself. But anyways, if your a hardcore gamer and don’t really care about watching movies get yourself a Xbox 360 and be satisfied. Bye now!~

I dont know about u. Forget about the PS3. To expensive too heavy to Powerful. My Friend Got shocked by the controller after`30 min playin It. Dont trust that Thing. Its like trusting An untmaed Lion. Gonna kill u. i warn u. Its just I dont know what to buy. The Wii or the Xbox 360? The Wii is creative and it is so easy to make games, the games r gonna be good. But it has the least graphics. The controller is a great hit! There r such a vireity of controllers! Im gonna wait till the PS4 comes out so I can get a PS3. A new system comes out about Every 5 years n times go fast. Hey u never know. (got that frm the NY loterry)
December 1st, 2006 at 4:31 am
You got to be kidding me the ps3 does not have to compete against any of the above as it will beat them hands down, i will be buying when it comes here in the uk in 2007 the top spec one which i think as the 60 GB hard drive. Xbox and Nintendo are babies compared to this ps3 baby.

December 5th, 2006 at 5:20 pm
the only reason the 360 is alittle better than the ps3 right now is because of the time its been in the market.but reasonably the ps3 is twice as strong as the 360 and a lot better than the wii, but in a while the ps3 with new games will take the throne as the king of consoles
December 5th, 2006 at 5:22 pm
blue ray is the future and a blue ray player cost 3000 dollars and thats and advantage that only the ps3 has.and i think that playing the wii can be fun but exausting,THE ONLY REASONPEOPLE ARE BUYING THE 360 IS FOR HALO and nothing else
December 6th, 2006 at 1:01 am
Well, people here seem to be more worried about the actual capabilities of the console. Blue-ray this, ###bit that…gamers are gamers, and every hardcore gamer’s a fanboy. Supposedly, the PS3 controller blows up (no, not literally) about a month or two after purchase. So sayeth Japan. And yet it’s winning right now. The thing’s sold out. There aren’t even any good games out for it now. The hardcore are lapdogs to their company, and I think that’s the reason Sony decided to so creatively name their system the “PlayStation 3″. It draws their old gamers back. They might (emphasis) have batted an eye if the thing had limited internet, and 64-bit graphics.
Microsoft has been out for a while, and they do have some good games out now. Again, it’ll be the Xbox following who purchase the system. I don’t have much to say about them…MS was smart, I suppose. They didn’t jazz their system up with potentially useless technology, and stuck to their guns.
Nintendo needed a change. The GCN wound up in last place, but I like their ideas. It applies to a wide range of gamers, and starts out with…hell, TONS of great games the day it comes out with the backwards capabilities of the Virtual Console (you can probably tell that I’ve been following the Wii more closely). They played it smart, like Microsoft, but in a different way since they’re in different positions. Ninty’s trying to attract new gamers (or gamers that left), while MS is giving their fans what they know works. Sony…well, they’re nerd bait. Sorry :P . I can’t say who’ll win…it naturally depends on the games that come out. Nintendo will bring out Super Smash Bros. Brawl, whose series is renowned for bringing all kinds of people in (they even left out the motion-sensitivity for those people who are wary of it). Sony, of course, has its fans, and if Blue Ray ends up being the next DVD it’ll win hands down, despite its outrageous price (in my opinion). MS may trump everything with Halo 3, or maybe another seller. Who knows.
I want the Wii to win, despite the retarded name. Not just because I trust Nintendo to look to its gamers as high as its profits, but because I want to see the reawakening of great games like EarthBound and Donkey Kong 64, and because I’m really getting sick of the aformentioned thumb cramps induced by dual analog (forget who that was who said that :P ).

the main thing people are concerned about with the PS3 are the price. well why dont you just wait a while till it comes down in price, no one said that they have to buy it first.
December 10th, 2006 at 2:13 am
What i think is simple.
PS3, overpriced, but very good graphics.
Xbox360, good graphics (but, not as good as the PS3). Okay price.
Wii, bad graphics (gamecube graphics), but has a great price $$$(anybody who has a job can buy it).
I have a Xbox360 and I am not a fanboy of it.And 1 more thing I dont get the point of arguing about game systems. The people agaist you won’t just easily say ” oh your right, my game system sucks and yours is a lot better than mine” So just deal with it. And what if you win, what are you going to do after that?????
December 10th, 2006 at 3:10 am
Screw u guys im getting a wii cause its cheap and fun and and not willing to spend 600on a system i dont care about graphics cause i have a bad Tv and for all of those haters saying thw wii has bad graphics is dumb. They are actually fine and in some games really good. Wii rocks
(i do own PS and PS2 this is my first nintendo system)
December 10th, 2006 at 10:18 pm
I like the wii, lots of my friends have it, just be careful when playing it because u can hit the tv or someone’s face becuase you swing it everwhere.
(my friend hit his sister HARD on the face, i was there to see it).
If anybody gets the wii be CAREFULL (it even says a warning on the wii) if you don’t want that $250 price into a bigger price becuase of surgury or getting a new tv becuse of the wii.
December 22nd, 2006 at 7:39 pm
PS3 IS THE BEST GAMING SYSTEM PERIOD.DO NOT GET ANYTHING ELSE BUT IT.THE GRAPHICS ARE SO UNREAL THAT IT IS NOT EVEN FUNNY.HEHE
December 23rd, 2006 at 10:38 pm
ok…here is the deal. XBox 360 has so far got the best titles since they have had a year to work with. Just wait until the PS3 gets a year to work with. There will be so many great games. Also all these add-ons to the XBox 360 will make the cost go higher than the PS3. Keep in mind that the PS3 has a blu-ray disc player in it which ranges up to $2000. Its a steal at $600. Halo and Gears of War are unbeliavable games and will always be, but keep in mind that Killzone 2 is suppose to be the Halo of XBox.
and for the Wii. That console is great. Cheers to the customers who have stayed with Nintendo from the beginning.
And as for Sega hahaha you guys suck
Dreamcast my nuts
dont argue about this all the time. Go out and do stuff. There is alot better stuff in this world than video games

PIECE OF CRAP AND YOUR SYSTEM IS FROM THE HEAVENS.” geez you ppl REALLY NEED TO
STOP. ANY WAYS
ALL SYSTEMS ROCKS. XBOX360, PS3, and the WII all ROCK. Im a true gamer who likes all games!
December 27th, 2006 at 1:29 am
I’m an xbox fanboy that must bow down to the fact that the ps3 is far superior to the xbox 360. If you compare the xbox 360 premium to the 60Gb ps3, the ps3 comes out ahead in many aspects.
1) ps3 has built in wifi, on the 360 you have to pay an axtra $100 for the wireless antenna.
2) ps3 has 40Gb more memory.
3) 1080i capabilities.
4) built in blu-ray, on the 360 you have to pay $200 for the hd dvd player! Which levcels the playing field for cost.
On the defence of the 360.
1) has great games like Gears of War, upcoming Halo 3, and Oblivion
2) Online play definently makes the xbox a more socially appealing console
3) More customizable u can get what you want and nothing else.
To tell the truth the systems are equal. They can both do the sam thing if u buy the add ons. The graphics are similar and the funness is the same. All those people that try to diss the other consoles are lame all the consoles are fun. Take this from an old xbox fanboy.
Also the Wii is really cool besides it’s retarded name. It’s the most original console, and is definently dominating sales right now. Nintendo definently came out on top, because everyone is buying this as a second console. Which is good for business.
PROBABLY THE LEAST BIASED REVIEW ONLINE

cHANGED OPINION HALF WAY THROUGH
December 27th, 2006 at 12:30 pm
U have to be an idiot to have gotten the ps3 just for its HD dvd player i can buy the wii an a HD dvd player thats better than ps3 and still have it cost less than that over weighted peice of crap they call the ps3. Ps3 stole another invention of Nintendos (wireless controllers). Lets just forget about xbox360. Its the xbox with new games. Bill Gates should stick to computers. Nintendo once again made a trade mark in gaming history. The wii also has free web browse (even though its useless lol). U can play games from 2 decades ago on it, Game cube games and it even has the weather channel lol. I think sony is more interested in dvd players than games. It isnt even a game consale anymore its a dvd player.
December 28th, 2006 at 7:14 pm
Your mostly all very, very foolish. Get a life you bunch of fucking imbeciles. Almost none of you actually know a straight god damned fact about any of the consoles. In other words keep your ignorant, disgraceful mouths shut.

this is to comment 8. from Xaor,
First off your an idiot! you cant compare two systems like that, you need to show all the extra costs for the PS3 becaus believe me, there will be more. and if you look at it that way, what about the HD TV you need for PS3? If you dont have one, the graphics are as good as my PS2, the 360 looks beautiful without one. theres $1,000 or more right there. Dont waste time with PS3 take the 5-600 bucks and save a little more. you cant get a wii and 360 so youll be set.
Plus the only promising title for PS3 is FF7 remade, and thats just a rumor.
January 4th, 2007 at 9:22 am
I belive the 360 is an absoloute superb console with dead risiing, quite possibly the most fun game i have ever had, dead or alive extreme (very sexy) and gears of war.
Yes the ps3 has its major setbacks but it has a long way to go before it gets to its prime. But look to the future, MGS4 anyone??? that will be one of if not the greatest game ever made, only for ps3. And of course the old playstation saviour rockstar will be bringing out gta 4. Now i know its cming out for xbox but the playstation controls suite GTA better than any other.
The wii is a nice touch and i reccomend it for families but little more.
At the moment the 360 is the console doing the business, the wii is smashing sales and the ps3 has yet to deliver, literally.
As im in UK ill have to wat till march to see the thing so t better make up for the waiting time otherwise well im afraid a 360 may be the only option.
January 7th, 2007 at 5:51 pm
What with this ps3 blueray?? I mean really arent video game systems meant for video games anymore? i no its like $3000 bucks or sumthing like that. but really! They’re making the ps3 look better. ITS JUST A DVD player. also i heard it can damage your tv if you dont have a specail HD tv. i dont watch dvd on my xbox. i use a HD DVD player.
January 13th, 2007 at 2:17 pm
do you guys know how many people said they like the wii better all the people on here that dont like the wii are messed up and that nots a opionion my parents even like the wii and thats hard to accomplish so all the people that dont like the Wii are bent and they can just shove it!!!!!
January 15th, 2007 at 3:50 pm
in scotland we won’t get the ps3 until march 2007 due to the UK being a secondary market compared to japan, the US, etc. I have played all consoles except the ps3, but am still going to buy it over the others, not out of bias bout of GAME SERIES. games like metal gear solid and final fantasy are among my favourites, so its the games, no the console pushing me to ps3.
Also, we have an HD tv but no hd dvd/blu ray player, and the ps3 is actually cheaper than a blu ray player anyway, so it semms worth the price.
xbox 360s are AMAZING, but when you tally up the accesories and extras, its price is not so different from the ps3, so you can’t factor the price into the arguement.
January 15th, 2007 at 3:53 pm
i wouldnt say buy the ps3 exclusively for the blu ray; as far as i know it can’t write or copy from blu ray, but please correct me if it can. Either way, at the end of the day it’s a games console, everything else is extra enhancing features.
January 15th, 2007 at 4:05 pm
to dan.
ff7, rumour as it is, is NOT the only promising title ; MGS4, the revival of the PS1’s WARHAWK, the FIFA series, SOCOM, Pro Evolution Soccer, Grand Theft Auto 4, and that’s just off the top of my head. I would consider the Wii for Zelda and the 360 for Halo, but generally I prefer the Playstation exclusive titles to the other consoles.

ps3 has wireless internet
xbox 360 does not have a wireless internet half to buy adaptor
ps3 has 60 gig hardrive
xbox 360 has 20 gig hardrive
guys if you add all the cost of items you half to buy for the 360

piece of garbage over heatin house burning peace of crap!
ps3 ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 26th, 2007 at 5:39 pm
You xbox fans are lame. You guys think the consol is all that just because the graphics are better and it can do all of these crazy things. Obviously your missing the point of gaming. Graphics are not what makes a game good! It just makes it look good which does absolutely nothing! The wii may not have good graphics but it is more fun to PLAY than any other consol. So this little chart this guy has on the screen means nothing.
May 9th, 2007 at 2:49 am
this is a responce to the first post, from Evan Reiser, and anyone else who agrees with the website provided. You cant rely on a website called microsoft is awsome to fairly judge the xbox and ps3, its pretty obvious who the winner will be. its like saying ‘oh yea the ps3 is way better in all things go to this website playstation3iswaybetterthanthexbox360.com. it just cant be done.
http://todayspolls.googlepages.com/home4 - acording to the poll on that site ps3 is winning, wii is close behind and way behind that is the xbox 360
May 9th, 2007 at 2:52 am
that site has another poll below that one with the wii infront and ps3 2nd.
June 11th, 2007 at 2:20 pm
if u dont get the 360 u r all dumbasses
June 29th, 2007 at 3:24 am
1- Xbox 360
2 Wii
3 Ps3
The Xbox 360 is the Best Console in the world. Because the Xbox 360 got the best Graphics and the Best Games in the World. The Xbox live is the best, Because you could play with your friends everywhere in the World, even Japan. I like playing by my self to. 10/10 Perfect
The Wii is not the Best Console that I been seing in the past year, But still A Good Console to buy. The Wii Has fun games. The Wii is Really Fun, Espicially Wii Sports, But I need Mario for the Wii. 7/10 Good
The Ps3 is Defintely not the Console what I need. Because The Ps3 has no Good Games out yet. The Ps3 Graphics is kinda like the Xbox 360, but The Xbox 360 Graphics is Kinda Darker and the Ps3 Graphics is kinda to Bright. 1/10 Abysmal
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:00 am
I need the honest truth i played both a wii and 360 and can not debate on which one is better 360 has the stunning graphics, and the wii has the very fun game play. I need to know which one of these will be the best to get in the long run. Im not what you would call a core gamer because i never played xbox live or anything like that dial up…but any ways i probably wont get highspeed so without live or anything like that i need a straight answer 360 or Wii???
August 3rd, 2007 at 1:07 am
Also from all the comments and posts i heard about a ps3 i just took it off of what i want period. Mainly the price and the no good games yet plus why would i need free online play? when i can not get online and play.
August 19th, 2007 at 1:37 pm
i wanted a 360 untill i looked at the wii the 360 is a soild system and i like the PS3 but the PS3 is 500-600 dollars just cuz blue ray something no one uses right now its a video game system not a overprice dvd player is u buy a PS3 u r bacisly buying a 360 with a overprice dvd player in it the PS3 is just to over priced and blue ray is too new right now to help them sell they sould of used it on there next consle once blue ray got into the real market now back to the Wii yeah its dosent look the best in game but once u played it most people will buy it or buy a 360 or PS3 then go to there firends to house to play cuz it fun or they couldnt afford game for there PS3 so they all good system but Wii and 360 are going to battle for 1st and 2nd in the end cuz no one wants a overpriced dvd player when they what to play video games
September 26th, 2007 at 2:30 pm
I’ve always been in Nintendo’s corner despite disagreeing with constant bad decisions made on hardware. That’s not to say I’m against or dislike Sony or Microsoft. In fact, I bought a PS2, Xbox and a Gamecube this last round. I’d have to say that the Xbox and Gamecube have had the most use and the PS2 took a back seat. Though I haven’t played any of the new consoles I have done a little research both in the numbers and by going to stores and checking on them. By the numbers (and bear in mind, all numbers in performance bench-marking are fudged in one way or another) the PS3 and Xbox360 appear to be fairly close in hardware power. By the specs it looks to me like Microsoft has set up the architecture of the xbox360 to have a good balance of video and processing power as where sony’s architecture looks like it’s aimed mainly at generating pretty pictures on a TV screen. Nintendo’s numbers on performance are not even close to the others, but Nintendo has said from the start that performance and video graphics were not the aim of this console so the Wii takes last place in the hardware department. I must say that Microsoft was a bit wiser in making their HD drive an optional add-on where Sony is trying to force their beloved Blu-Ray on their customers. And to anyone who argues that the Blu-Ray drive is worth the same as the top-notch Blu-Ray player out there, then you are truly naive. Then there’s the true test… seeing which system is selling. Any store (I mean ANY store) I walk into I check to see system availablility. And the usual story is that there’s no Wii’s to be found since they fly off the shelf as soon as shipments come in. It also is usually that there ARE PS3’s in stock (trust me, this is not due to Sony producing a ridiculous number of consoles more than Nintendo). There are also usually xbox 360s on the shelves, but then again, most people who want it have it already given the year-long headstart that Microsoft gave themselves. And to all those who claim that the Wii is for kids and for non-hardcore gamers, here’s a newsflash… Nintendo has made no secret of the fact that they’re trying to reach a range of customers and their main focus isn’t on the teenage males of this country. Nintendo is deliberately pushing for family-friendly games along with all the blood, guts, and guns games that the ‘hardcore’ players are ever-thirsty for. As always Xbox360 and PS3 will continue to battle for the nicest eye-candy on the market though admittedly they do have some awesome games that aren’t just jazzed up graphics with no solid gameplay.
So overall my choice would be to buy a 360 and a Wii and pass on Sony this time around.

I owned a Xbox 360 for a year and found it disapointing, Gear of War is well over rated yes it looks good yes it plays well but its short and the online game sucks, Halo 1 very good all over, Halo 2 pretty much the same as 1 with little improvement and from what my friends say 3 isnt that much to shout about.
PS3 isnt the real deal yet and maybe it wont be, maybe we’ll have to wait for PS4 my point is if MS win the games war and Sony pulls out of games market and Nintendo sticks to kids only gaming then the console world is dead and you may as well buy a p.c.
I hope PS3 does win this time and that MS have to go one better and that Nintendo come back into the fray with Sega and Atari becasue with out compition whats the point of a games market.
Or did i get the vibe of this thread wrong are you all just trying to see who’s got the bigger wang?
