Bob -

I focus on the travel industry, and there are others here who focus on different verticals. You can see this side of Compete's business at www.competeinc.com.

Feel free to email me at gsaks@compete.com if you would like to speak more.

Best,
Greg

Greg,

Great blog on Kayak merger! It was so good, I’m forced to ask if this is your avocation? Are you available to perform other analysis—especially for potential M&A transfers?

Happy New Year,
Bob Veris

Yen - all of our research is focused on the U.S. market right now so can't help you there.

Graeme - Consumers will always want a simple and quick tool to help them find the right travel products, and Kayak/Sidestep do a great job at that. We don't see the threat to Meta Search coming from Travel 2.0 initiatives, but rather from OTA's, Supplier sites, and traditional search engines (ie google) that all may want to try and cut Meta Search out of the distribution puzzle.

Interesting about the metasearch sites.....a year ago, I wrote about a major travel industry event that positioned this group as old news -- "Travel 1.5" -- when all the new stuff coming along was much more "Travel 2.0" and representative of the future for the industry. So, is this a $200M bet to keep Travel 1.5 alive?

Excellent overview, great to see some real analysis.

Any thoughts on how both entities are doing in the EU and Asia?
