The Compete Blog Is the People’s Blog
Written by Max Freiert (contact - e-mail) -- July 18th, 2007 | Recommend ThisWhen we put up yesterday’s political post, we anticipated someone mentioning Ron Paul, specifically that we neglected to include him in the analysis. But 12 comments in 18 hours deserves attention. So by popular vote, Ron Paul can now add “Analyzed in the Compete Blog Topic” to his long list of accomplishments.
Let me preface this with an explanation for why he was left out in the last post. The data we looked at was averaged, or totaled over the last 6 months. Ron Paul’s campaign - at least on his official site - didn’t really start gaining momentum until April of 2007. As a result, the data gives more weight to candidates that established and promoted their sites early on. If you look at the entire time period, Ron Paul received less total traffic than the other 4 candidates, and in the interest of length, we left him off the list.

Above is the breakdown of total visits by state for ronpaul2008.com over the past 6 months. While other candidates saw extensive support in a particular state, Ron Paul appears to have a more even distribution. While Paul’s campaign has been gaining momentum rapidly, over the 6 month period, he did not win any 1 state in terms of traffic, so our “Most Viewed Republican Candidate Websites” chart in the previous post does not change.
As the 2008 presidential race continues to ramp up, we will continue to dive deeper into political data…and we promise that Ron Paul will be involved as long as he’s a contender.

Thanks for doing this. It will be a great benchmark to look at in another 3 months, and compare it to the other guys!

Thank you for your fair and balanced approach!

Ya know, I might have considered Ron Paul as a candidate if and when he gets the Republican nomination to run on the Rep. ticket, because he voted no to the Patriot Act. But his followers have cinched it for me. His followers seem to be a bunch of 13 year olds, due to their behavior. They give me unsolicited PM’s to tell me why I am wrong for holding beliefs that are important to me. Gee, if I wanted to fight, I could always go back to my ex-husband. I want a candidate that promotes “unity through diversity” finding solutions in a bipartisan manner, the way the Constitution was set up to make the democracy work. The Republican held Congress has refused to work for the general welfare, so why don’t the RP followers stay off Democratic’s websites?

PS: I usually register as an Independent and waste my vote, voting in favor of a 3 party system and I do not vote for Libertarians because their platform is biased towards females.

Mary, what does it matter what people who claim to ‘follow’ a candidate have to say? It should be about the CANDIDATE. If you let random people on the internet decide who you vote for, how are you making a rational decision?
July 18th, 2007 at 8:12 pm
Well said, Brad.
July 18th, 2007 at 8:39 pm
Mary, keep in mind also that the Constitution was set up to make our REPUBLIC work not a democracy. Democracy is never mentioned. Bot the Neo-libs and Neo-cons have shown they do not care about us or our country. Ron Paul is the next greatest Founding Father.

Next up: Mike Gravel?
gravel2008.com!
Mike Gravel understands economics better than Ron Paul and wants to bring economic efficiency to the healthcare system through vouchers. He’s got some good ideas.

Ron Paul gets my vote. I’ve never been more excited about a candidate before and I’ve been around a long time. I want us out of wars and out of big government.

Thanks for posting this Max. I too look forward to an analysis a few months from now, where all of the campaigns are in full swing.

Ron Paul gets my vote. He should be an example for all sworn under the oath to abide and protect the Constitution of the United States. Our country is getting involved in way to much, wait until we piss off one of the Asian Countries and they cash in on our bonds. We will see about welfare then miss Mary.

P.S. I say we go with Paul’s ways to bring back the US Dollar before Euro’s take over. Also by doing so we shouldn’t have to force our currency on anyway cough cough IRAQ!!

i don’t typically go to ron paul’s main site but i do visit his congressional site several days per week to read his column. this may be a reason why his site isn’t visited as much as the others.

Brad: What a leader inspires his followers to do is important to me. Aug 4 is Obama’s birthday. His supporters are donating time and money to collect food for Second Harvest Food Bank in his name. He did not ask them to do that, they were inspired to take action in their communities to help feed the hungry. My first Pres, was JFK who (you must know, I guess) said: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country” and I was kind of raised with that mentality that it is better to give than to receive. When those foundling fathers wrote the Constitution they thought females and negroes were property with no right to make choices that affected their lives. Cythia McKinney is my choice for the next President of the United States, but she is not running, so I visited all 17 candidates You Tube channels and checked out Senator websites to check on voting records on issues of importance to me. Than I made a rational choice based on my moral and spiritual values.

Mary: You would also be happy to know that August 20th is Ron Pauls Birthday, and Ron Paul Followers have declared it Hope for America day.
As supporters of Ron Paul and striving to help our country we should come together on August 20th and help to better America. What a better way to honor Dr. Paul then to celebrate his birthday through community service. We can come together to clean streets, paint over graffiti, help the homeless, or provide a volunteer service needed in our communities.

I don’t think that RonPaul2008.com is a good gauge of Dr. Paul’s success or his popularity. There’s not a great deal of stuff on that site and there’s no daily blog. I myself, a Ron Paul supporter, rarely go there. I get most of my Ron Paul news on the Daily Paul blog (www.dailypaul.com).
Ron Paul’s campaign is less centralized and therefore harder to track.

Mary and those like her are missing the big picture. I am not 13 nor am I rude, I am sorry that some people were rude to you. The only way we can get away from argument, however, is to either abandon our beliefs or become apathetic. I am willing to do neither because of the high stakes.
Our money is being printed out of thin air by a corporation that charges the US Government interest on the newly created money. Every time they pump billions into the economy, from nowhere, it lessens the value of the money in your pocket.
That is a human rights issue, a moral issue; it hits the poorest people the hardest. It’s everything that Obama should be railing against, but he is silent. Why?
Government has no power that isn’t derived from the power of the people and spelled out in the constitution. However, today they can listen to your phones, seize your land and money and deprive you of privacy and liberty… all without a warrant. This didn’t start after 9/11, it was happening before as well.
Diversity is divisive by design and it is a tool to help polarize our nation. If you are always aware of what “group” a person is a member of and believe they get certain rights by being a member of this supposed group, you ignore the fact that we have individual rights. If we all had our individual rights protected, as guaranteed in the Constitution we would not need “diversity” it would happen naturally and we wouldn’t notice.
If the IRS was gone you would not have to show the government where you made every dollar you make, and you would be able to keep the fruits of your labor. That is a true welfare issue and a privacy issue. If you give money to a relative why should the government get a cut? Didn’t you earn the money already?
All we have to do is go back to the spending levels of the year 2000. That can’t be hard. If we cut that much spending you can get rid of the IRS and replace it with nothing!
We should print our own money. That money should be backed by something more than what backs monopoly money.
Otherwise, all of the issues you care about are nothing more than rearranging the deck chairs on the titanic.

Mary: “Brad: What a leader inspires his followers to do is important to me.”
Well if it’s any consolation, among other things Ron Paul inspired his followers to feed a children’s shelter low on supplies in Spartanburg (see: http://sjedit.ny.publicus.com/article/20070724/NEWS/707240312/-1/NEWS100 or a more extensive article at http://www.gambling911.com/Ron-Paul-072307.html). In total they donated 500 dollars worth of food. The effort was organized by Ron Paul supporters trough RonPaulForums.com
From what I can tell Ron Paul’s grassroots support is growing, and they’re extremely dedicated to the cause. Ron Paul supporters aren’t just a bunch of people strolling the Internet.
August 15th, 2007 at 8:23 pm
In addition to the donating food idea that Obama’s supporters got from Paul’s supporters (kidding, donate food to the needy any time) he also inspires his fans to put together ads as beautiful as this one. They put it together in about 2 days from idea to print on page.

There are some overzealous supporters but they are the minority and it’s not surprising that even kooks want freedom and a responsible government is it?

Guys, look at the chart. Ron Paul is on a huge upslope and has passed Rudy & Mitt.

This is great data. I would love to see this blog do state by state elections again in August (using the last 3 months data, since fred has entered the fray and after a few debates)

Thank you so much for this great article. Could you please run the statistics again for, say, 2 months (August-September). It should show the explosion of Ron Paul’s popularity even more.
I believe I am on safe grounds to say that such a new article would boost your website’s and blog’s views enormously and that hundred’s of thousands of people who are attracted to Ron Paul’s principles will be very thankful
