A Fashion Designer is Born

Pop quiz, what costs less than $20, is worn sparingly and can be found in the hundreds at the bottom of your closet? T-Shirts!!!!! Yes, one of the most prominent forms of abundance is beginning to evolve. Rather than being drawn into the Hard Rock Café (insert random tourist town here) offerings of yester year the people have said "ENOUGH, I’m making my own damn shirt" and that’s exactly what they have done.

The founders of CollegeHumor.com (a rather funny site attracting over 1 million people a month) launched bustedtees.com a few years ago and are now attracting 185,000 people a month. The designs are hilarious and the guys invite their customers to submit their own ideas and designs. Although I find Bustedtees to be more clever, threadless.com has taken the social aspect of design a step further and only features designs submitted by site members. Threadless has received a lot of good press and was even featured in Wired magazine recently, resulting in a strong visitor ramp up of 150,000 people a month. If you simply want to make your own shirt for yourself without paying a ton of money there is always cafepress.com which has grown into the 500 pound guerilla of custom T’s. Cafepress (over a million visitors each month) allows you to quickly build and print your own t-shirts, mugs, buttons and other junk for reasonable fees.
